OVERVIEW
Chiropractic Care for Arm and Leg Pain
Pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates into the arms or legs is one of the most common — and most misunderstood — symptoms we see at Midtown Chiropractic Clinic. While many people assume this type of pain originates in the limb itself, it is very often caused by nerve compression or irritation rooted in the spine. Treating the extremity alone, while ignoring the spinal source, explains why so many patients struggle to find lasting relief.
Our Raleigh chiropractors take a whole-body approach to arm and leg pain, tracing symptoms back to their origin and delivering targeted care that produces real, lasting results.

What Causes Arm and Leg Pain?
Spinal Nerve Root Compression (Radiculopathy) — When spinal vertebrae misalign or discs herniate, they can compress the nerves that exit the spine and travel into the arms or legs. Cervical radiculopathy affects the arms and hands; lumbar radiculopathy affects the legs and feet.
Sciatica — Compression of the sciatic nerve in the lower back or pelvis causes the characteristic shooting pain, numbness, and tingling that travels down one or both legs.
Peripheral Nerve Entrapment — Nerves can also be compressed at sites along their path through the arm or leg — as in carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, or tarsal tunnel syndrome. These conditions often coexist with a spinal component.
Referred Pain — Trigger points in spinal and extremity muscles can refer pain into the arms and legs in predictable patterns, mimicking nerve compression.

How We Treat Arm and Leg Pain
Spinal Assessment & Adjustment — We begin by identifying the spinal level responsible for nerve irritation. Targeted adjustments to the cervical or lumbar spine reduce nerve root compression and restore healthy nerve function.
Extremity Adjustments — When joints in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, or ankle are contributing to symptoms, we address these directly with skilled extremity manipulation and mobilization.
Nerve Mobilization — Specific neural mobilization techniques gently restore the nerve’s ability to glide freely through surrounding tissues, reducing tension and sensitivity along the nerve pathway.
Laser Therapy & Soft Tissue Work — Laser therapy reduces nerve inflammation and accelerates healing, while soft tissue techniques address muscle tension and fascial restrictions that may be contributing to nerve compression.
