OVERVIEW

Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis

Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents but also found in adults. While mild cases may cause few symptoms, moderate to severe scoliosis can lead to back pain, muscle imbalances, reduced lung capacity, and a significant impact on quality of life.

At Midtown Chiropractic Clinic in Raleigh, we provide supportive chiropractic care for scoliosis patients of all ages. While chiropractic care does not cure scoliosis, it can play a meaningful role in managing symptoms, improving spinal function, slowing progression, and enhancing overall comfort and mobility.

Congenital Scoliosis — Present from birth due to abnormal vertebral formation during fetal development. Requires close medical monitoring.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis — Associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or spina bifida that affect the muscles and nerves supporting the spine.

TREATMENT

How Chiropractic Care Helps Scoliosis

Spinal Adjustments — Chiropractic adjustments address the areas of the spine that have restricted joint motion due to the abnormal curvature, improving function and reducing nerve irritation and associated pain.

Postural Muscle Work — Scoliosis creates uneven tension across the muscles of the back. We use soft tissue therapy to address muscle imbalances, reducing fatigue and pain on the overloaded side.

Individualized Exercise Programs — Targeted exercises — including Schroth method-inspired movements — can strengthen the muscles on the weaker side of the curve and help improve postural balance over time.

Monitoring & Collaborative Care — We track your curve progression and work collaboratively with your medical team, including orthopedic specialists when appropriate, to ensure you receive comprehensive, coordinated care.
